The Aeris Mobility Platform (AMP) is a future proven, cloud-based software solution for connecting to and managing the connected features of IoT devices. Multiple Business Models

AMP is modular down to the component level. Every micro-service in AMP includes a well-defined API so that end users can leverage the entire stack, or “pick and choose” just the components they want, and then integrate them into existing or third-party systems.

AMP for OEMs, including automotive, motorcycle, and small engines industries, provides a generic set of building blocks that can be leveraged to build their own IoT solutions. What AMP Enables

Functions, Growth, and Customization

Functions may vary from the common—such as data transport, caching, or authentication—to the highly specialized—such as GPS location or custom device controls. Like parts from a bin, micro-services are assembled to enable the rapid development, deployment, modification, maintenance, security, and scalability of unique capsules.

Scalability

AMP is optimized for complex, global programs that will grow and evolve over time.

Large device deployments may require very complex segmentation. Once again, using connected vehicles as an example, we see that beyond managing vehicles of different model-years, an OEM also may be dealing with many different models, and the different feature packages of each model. On top of that, those models might be deployed to different geographical regions, each with its own vehicle and regulatory environments—creating even greater complexity.

AMP architecture enables scaling of subscribers and services, including addition, modification, or removal. The architecture also mitigates risks by enabling rules-based, seamless expansion across regions and vehicle models.

Customizability

Capsules can scale as needed by modifying their constituent components―to increase computational capacity and redundancy. They can be created to meet the needs of virtually any IoT deployment or segment, duplicated to create a new capsule with identical capabilities or copied and modified to create similar variations.

For example, think of two cars. Both are the same make and model, but they are going to two different countries. The services needed might be the same, but the language, the regulatory requirements, or even local currencies might all differ. The capsule farm enables different information resources and applications to be securely linked and shared to create new value propositions for vehicle users. Capsules provide the flexibility to match infrastructure with vehicle mobility.

This is a powerful proposal for companies seeking to deliver value propositions as brand-defining opportunities.

Security

There is a multitude of complexity involved with securing devices, data, and networks. Aeris’ security by design, along with comprehensive support services, provide the backbone to any deployment. Aeris security provides highly secure data with the ability to control access; quicker issue resolution times, thereby minimizing downtime; and a reliable secure connectivity management solution. A single platform, with a single overall view of the entire deployment, simplifies security oversight, helping to identify and resolve issues before they escalate into business-critical problems.

The platform itself is firewalled from the public internet with secure authenticated channels. VPN access is required with application-level and multi-stage encryption. Further security is provided via software containers with credential management, remote monitoring, and multiple infrastructure and technology validation points to prevent spoofing.

Services Platform

The Services Platform includes a robust library of pre-built Business Services (such as remote engine start, remote health and status check, GPS tracking, etc.) for motorized moving things; a Services Factory to create or enable new services; a Product Catalog to package those services into a wide variety of products (for different regions, brands, models, etc.); Lifecycle Management to correctly deliver services across the entire user and device lifecycles (including vehicle/thing registration, customer enrollment, mobile device pairing, transfer of ownership, TCU swap, etc.); and Billing, Payments, and Taxation services to charge customers for services rendered.

 

Device Platform

The Device Platform connects and controls the information flow between each device and all other endpoints in your system.

Purpose-built for IoT and globally tested at scale, the Device Platform enables OEMs to securely and efficiently deliver services to any number of devices. Architecturally separated from the Services Platform, the Device Platform automates device configuration as services evolve, improving operational efficiency and enabling advanced business models where users can carry connected services from machine to machine. It also integrates a number of tools to increase responsiveness, including a real-time publish and subscribe communications bus (MQTT), event management, state management, and authorization and authentication.

Finally, it includes a smart edge client that enables maximum service flexibility while reducing both connectivity and cloud computing costs.

 

Infrastructure Services

Infrastructure Services provide the tools and analytics to help OEMs manage and monitor their entire system—from infrastructure to applications—at any scale. Infrastructure Services integrate advanced tools, including a container deployment orchestrator (Kubernetes), rules-based anomaly detection, trend analysis, and a full audit trail to detect security threats.

The entire system is GDPR-compliant by design and incorporates security best practices at network, transportation, and application levels. Security protections at the network level include firewalls, DMZ (safe zones), reverse proxy, VPN, and a dedicated private IP range.

The transportation level includes moving data, while the application level deals with data at rest, multi-factor authentication and role-based access control, either four- or six-eyed principles, and a full audit trail.

AMP Architecture

Using a variation on container technology, Aeris Mobility Platform architecture affords the opportunity of running multi-variant applications in varied environments, with divergent functionality and goals. Functions can vary from the common—such as data transport, caching, or authentication—to the highly specialized—such as GPS location or custom device controls.

Micro-Services and
Capsule Farms

Aeris micro-services are self-contained applications that have everything they need to run, sustain, and maintain a service function. As OEMs of moving things have their deployments grow and push computational limits, micro-services can be initiated to seamlessly expand capacity.

Capsule farms are a unique way to organize the deployment of specific sets of micro-services. For example, a capsule could be generated to manage connected medical devices, and another could be made to manage connected vehicles. Capsule farms can be designed to perform many different functions, from merely collecting information, to extremely sophisticated command and control operations.

Cloud Platform Integration

The entire platform is cloud agnostic and can be deployed anywhere in the world, with any provider—public or private—now or in the future.
