The SIM card is the vital component of machine-to-machine communications solutions, containing the circuitry that holds key information for devices to connect to a GSM cellular network.
SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module or Subscriber Identification Module. An integrated circuit, it contains the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and the related key to identify and authenticate users on mobile devices.
A SIM chip is embedded in a removable plastic SIM card and can be inserted between different devices. The card also holds its unique serial number (ICCID) and temporary information related to the local network, a list of the network services the user has access to and two passwords: a personal identification number (PIN) for ordinary use and a personal unblocking code (PUK) for PIN unlocking.
For M2M applications, there are generally three form factors for SIM cards:
For most M2M solutions, the standard mini-SIM is appropriate. They can be easily inserted in the SIM card holder in a device, and will performed well under normal environmental conditions.
When your solution operates under harsher environmental conditions, or when your device is subject to repeatable vibrations and shocks, the ruggedized M2M Grade SIM provides a good alternative.
There are also embedded SIMs for solutions that operate in environments with more intense vibrations (e.g. automotive) that soldered to the device. Also this SIM performs continuously well under harsh conditions.
Aeris offers SIM cards for all these form factors.
Because AT&T is shutting down their 2G GSM GPRS on January 1, 2017, and is already limiting use of the network by eliminating geographic areas and refusing to certify new 2G devices, Aeris Communications is offering the Aeris SIM SWAP. If you meet the following criteria, Aeris will buy the new GSM SIMs for 100% of your devices:
Have 500 or more devices deployed in the United States, Canada and/or Mexico AND
Are an AT&T customer ready to change your GSM M2M cellular provider OR
If you are ready to upgrade from 2G GSM GPRS to 3G GSM GPRS (using new or existing equipment)
This offer is subject to Aeris 2014 SIM Swap Terms & Conditions.
