The construction industry has seen sustained growth during the past decade. According to a report published by Statista, the combined public and private construction spending in the United States alone reached $1.23 trillion in 2017. Globally speaking, this upward trend is set to continue. Global Construction 2030, a report published by Oxford Economics and Global Construction Perspectives, forecasts that construction output will reach $15.5 trillion worldwide by 2030, with the U.S., China, and India accounting for 57% of that growth.

While climate change is a complex problem with a diverse number of contributing factors, the factor that is perhaps the easiest for people to understand is trash. As trash decomposes, landfills emit a landfill gas that is roughly comprised of 50% carbon dioxide (CO2) and 50% methane, both of which trap heat in the atmosphere and lead to climate change. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills are the third-largest source of human-related methane emissions in the United States, accounting for approximately 14.1% of methane emissions in 2017.

According to a report from the International Energy Agency (IEA), air conditioners and electric fans currently account for nearly 20% of the total electricity used in buildings around the world, and global energy demand from air conditioners is expected to triple by 2050. With increasing energy demand from HVAC systems contributing to a rise in electricity costs, the HVAC industry is looking for ways to increase energy efficiency in their products and provide the tools for their customers to better monitor their energy consumption.

Despite its relatively short existence, shared micro-mobility services have made a significant impact on the urban commuting landscape. According to a report from the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO), 84 million trips were taken in the United States using shared micro-mobility in 2018, more than double the number of trips taken the previous year. The most recent trend in micro-mobility has been the development of the dockless electric scooter, or e-scooter. Lime and Bird, two e-scooter companies that have pioneered the technology in America, each broke records by achieving billion-dollar valuations in under a year.
