'The influential M2M industry publicationConnected Worldon Tuesday addressed acquisition rumors in the U.S. carrier market, referring to a recentWall Street Journalstory that said Sprint could be moving towards a bid to acquire T-Mobile.

The report stirred up discussion about the need for spectrum and how carriers will continue delivering relevant services to clients, wrote Mike Carrozzo, Connected Worlds chief editor.

Highlighting the issue is AT&Ts plan to shut down its 2G GSM network support by Jan. 1, 2017, Carrozzo wrote. Such topics get the market riled up around the '2G Sunset' and how the industry must prepare, according to Carrozzo.

To illuminate the issue, he cites anAeris Communicationswhite paper,AT&Ts 2G GSM Sunset, which calls the sunseta major issue for the M2M industry because such large numbers of GSM/GPRS devices have been deployed.

Carrozzo continues: Going on, Aeris suggests that if you consider there to be 200 'working days a year' that would leave the industry with a task of replacing more than 17,000 devices per day. The assessments made by Aeris go much deeper, and I would encourage you to check out morehere.
